I had to chain the BRZ to get home. After a Californian goober freaked out and stopped in the middle of the road killing everyone's momentum it was time to just do it and make life easier.

I must say, I like these disposable spring type chain compared to standard chains. They are quick on, quick off, and don't seem to run the risk of ripping your fenders apart as badly.

So no snow/winter tyres where you live? As a European from rather far north in Europe it's quite hard for me to fathom why americans don't have winter tyres :)

I got my car stuck in the driveway over winter break. There was maybe 3 or 4 inches of snow on the ground. Took me an hour to get it out, and then it was fine and sideways!!

Needs rally lights.

I was sideways and mostly happy until the people in the Prius from California decided to keep brake checking us all and making us come to complete stops on hills. Then it was way more sideways than forward.

I have winter tires for other vehicles. This car I was waiting until I got new wheels. Since we don't get much snow usually I just carry chains... cheaper and don't expire. When I get new wheels for it, I'll move this set to winter duty and may even toss studded tires on, since I would only use them in majorly bad weather.

Oh, it will and did. I was going to do some more foolery in the intersections before the house, but one of the chains sounded like it had developed a little slack a few miles back and I didn't want to risk it.

I Agree. The wife however would not.

First time in 10 years using chains last winter (driving in the mountains - don't really get snow in San Diego). Failed to remember that they have a speed limit and they cleaned all the paint off the bottom of the struts on our XC90.

Next time I'll take my truck. Mostly because we sold the XC90. Partly because I like to hoon (in a responsible fashion, of course) when given the opportunity.

Glad to see I'm not the only guy that drives his 86 in the snow...

Haven't resorted to chains yet, though

Nice. Yeah, I had to stop and remember which direction they went and which side the clips should be facing since I hardly ever use them... and the wife wanted to help so I had to redo one.

Ahh. I see :) Where I live I could not survive a winter without studded tyres, I even have a set of non studded winter tyres for late autumn/late spring..

Yeah, all season I was fine, this last hurrah was a good show on nature's part. She has the whole freeway shut down right now and Subarus in all the ditches. Took people by surprise how the powder turned straight into ice underneath.

Also, did you have problems with your windows rolling up? I have noticed this in my car, below freezing it just won't roll all the way up. You have to do that yourself.

Well.. We don't have much snow in the eastern part of Norway, but we have ICE ICE ICE and ICE... so :P

Meh, OEMs are "free" and almost worth as little as steelies anyway. Steelies are nice for cleaning though.

Yeah, studs are much needed on ice. Thankfully it hasn't been bad for ice the last few years.

I haven't yet, but I could see if there were ice on the window seals it would have issues.

Btw, no idea why I replied to this. I wanted to reply to our little convo.

Either way, it might just be my car. But it is really really annoying.

How do these go in the snow? recently moved to Wisconsin and debating on buying a BRZ/FRS or a Miata.

I don't want to say shitty, because it's not impossible to drive in the snow, but it's not great. I can live with it because my commute isn't too bad. I just throw 2 bags of kitty litter in the trunk lol

I could have used something like that yesterday. I was getting zero traction accelerating, it was a pain in the ass. Eventually she would move, but better tires or chains would have made my drive home much more pleasant

Yeah, I have gotten in the habit of just always having chains if it might get bad.

Im currently using an 96 Jeep for winter, and will keep that around, but was just curious. Also, deciding between Miata and FRS is an annoying choice to make...
